Second Year SciFest 2020
Winners announced
This year marks ten years of SciFest at St Andrew's College. This year was run very differently to previous years in that there was no SciFest judging day in person in the school as in previous years. Instead, the Second Year Science teachers narrowed down 168 students to a 'Top 5' - not an easy task!
The 'Top 5' entrants were quizzed by two SciFest judges via a Zoom call. They all did exceptionally well and the following results were announced:
Top 5:
- Dearbhla Fewer (Winner)
- Elliot Tiernan (Runner up)
- Chloe O'Sullivan, Alice McLysaght and Lucille O'Mahony (no particular order of 3rd, 4th and 5th).
Society of Irish Foresters' award - Awarded to projects that have a focus on plant biology and forestry:
- Ellie Walsh
- Michelle Crofton
- Alexander Trickett
Bristol Myers Squibb 'Passion for STEM' award - Awarded to a project that satisfies one or more of the following criteria:
- A student demonstrating passion, excitement and enthusiasm for STEM
- A student that is demonstrating pioneering qualities through their work
- A project that has a positive impact on sustainability from an environmental perspective
- A project that has demonstrated hard work, diligence and attention to detail. These aspects could include but are not limited to:
- Their background research methods
- Experimental methods
- Data analysis
- Aylin Ustuner
- Olivia Priestley
- Conor McFadyen
Abbvie 'Young Innovator Award' - Awarded to a project that satisfies one or more of the following criteria:
- A project that demonstrates something truly new, exciting and creative
- A student that is demonstrating pioneering qualities through their work
- Any project that has introduced a novel way at looking at something that perhaps has already been done before
- Weichen Huang
- Rachel Connolly and Fiala Ni Mhurchu
- Jerome Beck
