P5OC
My name is Faye O’Connell Bell, and I am teaching P5OC this year at St. Andrew’s College Junior School. This is my first year at St. Andrews, and I am really looking forward to the coming year ahead. I attended Dublin City University where I received a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education. I spent a period abroad living in Norway where I studied Outdoor Education. Here, I gained experience in teaching children with English as an additional language across K1 to P5. I gained an immense insight into the Scandinavian culture and intend to incorporate this into my classroom environment. I thoroughly enjoyed my time living in Norway for its diversity, culture and the focus on education in the outdoor environment. I also worked in CBC Monkstown secondary school where I gained experience working in special education.
I feel that P5 is a particularly important period in the children’s lives as they enter the senior sector of the school. It is during this period that I aim to support the children in becoming more independent, organised, and confident in their abilities. I encourage the children to think independently, as well as embracing diversity and respecting others. I intend to make this year as enjoyable as possible while supporting the children to reach their utmost potential.
In my spare time I play Gaelic football both for my local club and County Dublin. Additionally, I coach underage Gaelic football, enjoy walking my dogs and spending time outdoors.
I strongly believe in open and positive communication between home and school. Please do not hesitate in contacting me if there is anything you would like to discuss or ask.
