P6A

Welcome to P6A! My name is Jonathan Adair, and I am excited to be returning for my fifth year on the staff of St Andrew’s College Junior School and to have the privilege of teaching the oldest students in the Junior School.

I was born in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim and moved to Inverness, Scotland, where I grew up from the age of three years. After graduating with an MA (Hons) in History, I qualified with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Primary) from Moray House College, Edinburgh, in 1996.  I am additionally qualified with a BSc (Hons) Psychology through the Open University.  After qualifying, I taught for three years in a state primary school in London, before spending the next twenty years working in a variety of roles as class teacher, Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher, at another independent junior school in Dublin.  Most of my teaching experience has been gained working with the P6 age group, though I have also previously taught P2 and P5 in other schools.

P6 is a hugely important year for the children, who face the challenge of preparing for their upcoming adventure in secondary school. I look forward to supporting every child to develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and self-belief they will need to make a successful transition. For the year ahead I will do everything I can to ensure that P6A will be a safe, happy, stimulating, and fun learning environment, where each child has the confidence to be true to themselves and appreciates and respects the gifts and contribution of all their classmates.  With the support of parents, I am confident that every student will have a positive year, great memories to look back on and feel excited and well prepared, both academically and socially, for the next phase of their education.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, and walking; however, my main passion is the one and only Tottenham Hotspur F.C. As an ever-suffering season-ticket holder, I have developed fortitude and humility, whilst never losing hope that this will be our year!

I look forward to working positively with every parent in the year ahead.  An active, open dialogue is essential to supporting each child, so if there is anything I can do to help, or anything that you would like to discuss or ask, please contact me by email or in person. My door is always open.
