First Year Options

globeThe Junior Cycle examination is held at the end of the Junior Cycle in post-primary schools. The Junior Cycle caters for students in the 13 to 15 year old age group. Students normally sit the examinations at the age of 14 or 15 years, after 3 years of post-primary education.

At St Andrew's College all students study the following subjects up to Junior Cycle level:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Irish (unless an exemption is held)
  • Modern Foreign Language (Spanish / French / German)
  • Science
  • Geography
  • History
  • CSPE
  • SPHE (non-exam)
  • PE
  • Religion (non-exam)
  • Wellbeing

The students then choose to study two additional subjects from the following list:

  • Art, Craft and Design
  • Business Studies
  • Classical Studies
  • Home Economics
  • Music
  • Technical Graphics
