Junior and Leaving Certificate Programmes

Our curriculum is structured to meet the following aims and objectives:

  • To further the intellectual, creative, aesthetic, practical, moral, spiritual, physical and social development of all students
  • To enable students to acquire the skills and qualifications which will allow them to progress beyond school into higher education and/or employment

The curriculum at St Andrew's College aims:

  • to ensure that students acquire a broad base of knowledge, skills and understanding
  • to provide a balance between the abstract and the practical, the traditional and the modern, the formal and the intuitive
  • to enable a smooth progression in student learning across the 12 to 18 year old age range
  • to enable a smooth transfer between schools when students join or leave the college
  • to allow students subject choice where appropriate
  • to provide interest and challenge in order to foster the students’ enjoyment of learning
  • to support a variety of teaching styles and approaches
  • to provide opportunities for differentiation so that all students are challenged by work which makes appropriate demands of them
  • to allow students to maximise their potential
  • to promote the students’ development towards independent, life-long learning         
  • to encourage the students’ interest in, and provide experience of, the world of work
